As the popularity of the Internet increases, so too does the number and complexity of computer viruses.

 

I always recommend the use of an Internet Security product, and whilst there are ones that are free to use or come as part of your computer's operating system you always get a higher level of protection using a separate paid-for product.

With experience of many of the most commonly used Internet Security products, I personally use and recommend the AVG suite of products as I feel these offer a high level of protection for a reasonable price without draining your system's resources and slowing it down considerably.

However if your computer is acting strangely, doing things you cannot control or running really slowly then you may have picked up a virus, malware or spyware.  These can be picked up by any numbers of methods - emails, websites, messaging services...  the issue may start out small initially but if it is left untreated it can get worse and not only lead to a larger system failure but also you run the risk of sending out infected content yourself and affected friends, family and other contacts.  A recent BBC News survey found that 1 in 5 computer systems were infected with a virus without the user knowing.

If you are worried about viruses, malware, spyware, ransomware or any other suspicious activity then contact me as soon as possible.  I run a minimum of five different removal tools on all systems that I look at with these problems and there is not a single solution does protects or removes everything.  That way I am able to confidently say that the original threat has been removed.

 

I normally allow 3-5 working days for virus removal in order to be able to properly clean the system of any infections found.  For this reason, all virus removal work is carried out at my office in Emsworth.  Customers are welcome to bring their computer equipment in to me for investigation, or where possible we can arrange for me to collect it either in person or by courier.

 

I charge £45 inc VAT for a virus/spyware removal service.  In extreme cases, where it is not possible to remove the virus or it has caused additional damage to critical system files, there may be no option but to wipe the system completely and re-install the operating system and additional applications (where possible).  The cost of this is £75 inc VAT, plus any additional costs if I need to backup data from the infected system and restore it (without infection) onto the cleaned system.
